It’s not often that we get to hang out with Carlos, Christina, and their three adorable kids. We made plans to go to the Enjoy Center in St. Albert for brunch. The Enjoy Center is a beautiful green house slash organics super market and it happens to also have a really nice bistro as well. If you wander around you will also find a spa, a deli, a flower shop, a bakery, and a specialty wine store as well.
The brunch was very good and the service was amazing. My eggs benedict had some really tasty tomatoes confit in them. I’ve never even heard of those before. The place did get a tiny bit warm near the end of the meal but this is normal considering we were in a giant greenhouse. I would definitely recommend the Glasshouse Bistro to anyone looking for a bright place to eat where there are a lot of families and children around. It’s a nice change over the dark dingy places around town with hung over students and hipsters. Don’t get me wrong though, I like those too.
The Greenhouse is pretty amazing. It certainly makes me want to go out side and dig up an area to plant some vegetables this year.
The Deli sells a lot of hormone free products as well as specialty and local items. It’s definitely very different than your local supermarket deli. The prices are actually very reasonable. You can find bison and rabbit in the meat area as well as your less adventurous meats. There are local perogies, frozen local soups, a plethora of different cheeses and a wide assortment of interesting items that you won’t find in other places.
Amaranth Whole Foods Market seems to specialize in the ultra healthy. All the vegetables seem to be organic and the shelves are stocked with items I normally don’t see. Coconut juices, Gluten Free Items, Kale Chips, and Hemp Cookies are everywhere. The shelves are all very well stocked and the market has a Trader Joe’s or Planet Organic feel. The prices are reflective of this as well, and it’s expensive to eat healthy. Jenny bought some cinnamon honey and I got a bag of hormone free beef bones to make some soup with.
We spent a total of about 3.5 hours at the enjoy center. It was a really nice Sunday.
